Limitations of Registry Cleaner Utilities

An average computer has dozens of programs installed on it and every time it is used it writes new information to the windows computer registry. This is particularly apparent if the computer is used for browsing the Internet when many thousands of files can be indirectly downloaded and saved on your computer which all help to bog down the system and give the sluggish response that many computer users are familiar with. In order to maintain the performance of the computer these unnecessary files should be removed as soon as possible, which is why many computer experts recommend the use of registry cleaners. However, you should also be aware that there are also limitations to what the registry cleaner software can do.

The biggest drawbacks are the risk of registry damage or the threat of registry misuse. If the registry cleaner software is not programmed particularly well it could actually cause the registry files to become corrupted instead of being corrected. Fake software is also a threat because it promotes itself as a useful utility but actually sets about harming your computer and installing all kinds of malware – often with your permission! These drawbacks means the onus is on the user to choose the right registry cleaning software which can be done by reading reviews and using common sense about the program they are downloading.

Fraudulent software posing as a helpful utility is one thing but there are also registry cleaners which are less efficient than others. For example free registry cleaning software is often not as good as paid software simply because it doesn’t get the same level of investment as a paid solution or maybe it was created by a single software enthusiast rather than a software company specializing in PC security. On top of that if you download and use free software and it causes a problem there is very little legal action you can take compared to if you bought a premium registry cleaner.

Some of the cheap or free registry cleaning software might take up a lot of system resources themselves as they scan through your files, making your computer unusable, some even hog system resources when they are in a passive state which defeats the purpose of cleaning your system in the first place!

Finally, a registry fixing utility may not be able to find and fix every problem. While it may be able to take care of many problems it relies on a computer algorithm and a database to know what to look for. If you have more deep seated corruption problems then using automated software might not be the solution.

With all that said, the drawbacks and limitations of registry cleaning software does not outweigh the benefits when you choose a professional, well supported product which works to eliminate unwanted files and fine tune the performance of your PC.
